Welcome
Back in person since March of 2020.
Introductions were made.

GGM Topics
  • How will this inservice be managed going forward? Host School Individual? Small committee? Whole group? Looking at the host school NASC committee members would be organizing with the rest of the NASC committee pitching in with presenters, ideas, and help on the day of.
  • We would like to ask for more funds to help entice non-school presenters. Need to review budget with the Superintendents.

Location: Barnum will host in 2023

Keynote
  • Suggestions
  • Barnum (host school) will start checking into available keynotes based on the recommendations that were made.
  • GGM Survey Results

Date change?
  •  MLK day is difficult to get outside individuals in to present. We would like to look at alternative days.

Future of NASC
  • In the past, this committee focused on 1:1 programs, curriculum, getting people together to collaborate.
  • Mission/Vision - Need to review this in the fall
  • How do get time to explore the things we find and share
  • Bringing equality to K-12 education
  • Innovation and bringing the excitement back
  • Book studies
  • CEU opportunities

Teacher Mental Health
  • Esko elementary is doing a mental health hour during PLC time
  • Game day during snow day
  • Staff social at local establishments
  • Afternoon bowling on early release day
  • Staff parties
  • Bonding time with staff and students, remake that connection
  • Hobby day - staff host and display hobbies to make connections
  • Sharing ideas with our district to help organize and motivate staff
  • Possibly incorporate this into afterschool CEU opportunities that include a social or collaborate element
  • Subs: teachers are covering for each other and this adds stress

Other
  • Membership changes, please let Evan know if you will not be on the NASC committee and if you know your replacement please.

  • Blooket
  • Tech Tools for Engagement

NASC Agenda
March 17th, 2022 - Virtual Meeting

Feedback from Superintendents regarding GGM
  • I shared with them our proposal of having an elementary morning, high school afternoon, but all teachers are able to attend all day if continuing education options are needed. This would maximize the continuing education offerings while allowing our talented staff members to be available to be presenters for the whole day.
  • The Superintendents discussed this for a while and decided that all districts will be participating in a full-day inservice next year. They felt that opening it up to choice (district or individual) would create unneeded conflict, plus they want to maximize the continuing education and collaboration options for their staff.
What Next?
  • GGM Location
    • Barnum is next in the rotation, but other schools (i.e. Cloquet) are better able to handle the large crowd. Should we continue the rotation, or should we make the event easier to attend? Bekki was going to check with Cloquet.
  • GGM Keynote
    • Dr. Stephen Peters (https://thepetersgroup.global/) - recommended by ML and McGregor Supers from MASA conference. Focus on community and culture building
    • Jerry Brooks
    • Themes:
    • Joe Sanfelippo
    • Brad Gustafson
  • Continuing Education requirements may have to be reviewed somehow next year to make sure they qualify. A way to verify sessions in advanced so they work for all districts is needed. Get professionals where/when we can.

NASC Agenda
Updates
  • Edcamp 2022 has been canceled by the superintendents.
Gathering of Great Minds Survey
  • 70% of the survey results were neutral or better (3-5)
  • It was tough to have one person coordinate, possible team approach in the future
  • Cloquet did prefer not having to travel and the half day
  • Need more licensure requirements, and having someone review these ahead of time would be beneficial

Future of GGM?
  • We have a lot of talent in our buildings to share
  • We do have a list of external resources that can be utilized in the future
  • We want to focus on the licensure requirements
  • Possible of combo of Inservice/Edcamp
  • Discussion on half day vs whole day
  • Proposed having a elementary morning, high school afternoon, but all teachers are able to attend all day if continuing education options are needed. This would maximize the Continuing Education offerings while allowing our talented staff members to be available to be presenters.
