NASC Agenda
March 14th, 2019
Welcome & Introductions
Superintendent Mike Cary welcomed us to Cloquet Senior High.
Help Chat
  • SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) at the elementary - Barnum Elementary
    • Looking for what other elementary’s are using
      • Carlton is using PBIS
      • Moose Lake is looking to add PBIS to the elementary. Already doing it at the high school.
      • Cloquet is using PBIS
      • Esko does not have an official program. Instead used a book about good habits and focuses on one per month
  • Moose Lake is exploring e-learning that could be used for cold/snow days. Wondering if other schools have explored this at all?
  • Cloquet is looking for options for sub-shortages.
    • Using and paying teachers on prep.
    • Combining classes.
  • Ellie will be contacting journalism and science teachers on an outdoor project at Jay Cooke State Park. The project will include a professional photographer and a scientist. Student work could be displayed/showcased. Information will be given to each school to be delivered to Art and Science teachers.
  • Moose Lake is wondering if anyone used Adobe Creative Cloud.
Action Committees
Review where we are at (see January minutes below):
Action Committees work time
  • Collaboration:
    • We want to promote collaboration by showcasing those that are doing it.
      • Collect stories (pics and short writeup) of teachers working with teachers from other districts
      • At NASC monthly meetings, create stories to share and distribute to each district. NASC members will determine how to best share with their district.
        • Current examples: Industrial Technology Teacher field trip, Science teachers sharing tools, Fourth Grade working with other districts, Battle of the Books.
  • Innovation:
    • List of staff members willing to share ed tech expertise
      • Now we have a list started...Now what? How can we share?
    • Adding names to communication document to include yearbook advisor, NHS advisor, World’s Greatest Workforce, etc
    • Innovative Best Practices for Reading
      • Purpose: To create database of resources that staff at local districts have found to be best practice in reading and math both tech and non-tech related.
        • Plan: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScigiD42XcJOzkV5VSbk7eBIrBOOXdCX0Nbu4aFHT7zWqnujw/viewform?usp=sf_link
        • How can we ensure this database (once we create in the future) will be utilized? Thoughts?
  • Staff Development:
    • EDCAMP
      • Looking at the Monday after MEA.
      • Waiting to hear which schools will be involved to determine location.
      • Continue with SAGA first
      • Choosing some facilitators ahead of time?
      • Put together a tutorial video so people have a better understanding of how to progress without a designated facilitator, how to break into sub-groups within the topics, etc.
    • Gathering of Great Minds
      • Speakers are set for the rest of Moose Lake location
      • Looking for creative ways to liven things up and keep it innovative
        • Showcases
        • Panels- combined schools
        • Playground area(s)
        • Promote social interaction via coffee talks, talk and walks
        • Additional option for digital interaction other than Twitter, maybe something that could then be used in the classroom
        • Door prizes at beginning or end, scavenger hunt
        • Keynote split into smaller groups?
        • Survey interested topics ahead of time and fill with EDCAMP if needed
Things to do:
  • Please have your staff fill out this survey for the Innovation Committee:   https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScigiD42XcJOzkV5VSbk7eBIrBOOXdCX0Nbu4aFHT7zWqnujw/viewform?usp=sf_link
  • If you have examples of teachers working with teachers in other districts, please bring that back to the Collaboration Committee (with pic if possible).
